Managing overlapping discounts with promotions priorities

  • Updated

This guide explains how to manage overlapping discounts when multiple campaigns are active simultaneously. The key factor here is priority, which determines how discounts are applied to products in a cart.

How Priority Works

  • Lower priority numbers (e.g., 1, 2, 3) apply first.
  • Higher priority numbers (e.g., 9, 10) apply only if no lower-priority discounts are used.

Example 1: Higher Priority Discount (50% off Dresses)

  • Summer Sale: 50% off dresses (Priority: 7)
  • VIP Coupon: 25% off everything (Priority: 10)

What happens?

  • A dress in your cart gets 50% off from the Summer Sale because it has higher priority.
  • Jewelry gets 25% off from the VIP Coupon because it’s not part of the Summer Sale.

Example 2: VIP Coupon with Higher Priority (25% off All Products)

  • Summer Sale: 50% off dresses (Priority: 7)
  • VIP Coupon: 25% off everything (Priority: 5)

What happens?

  • The dress gets 25% off because the VIP Coupon has higher priority than the Summer Sale.
  • Jewelry also gets 25% off from the VIP Coupon.

Key points to remember

  • Priority order matters: Discounts with lower priority numbers (e.g., Priority 5) override higher ones (e.g., Priority 10).
  • Campaigns with higher priority can override other discounts. For example, a higher-priority coupon applies to all items, even if they're part of a different sale.
  • Can be Combined: If a discount is set to "Can be combined," you can stack discounts (e.g., 50% off a dress + 25% off another item). If it's turned off, only one discount will apply to each item.
